SELF PORTRAITS AND MIXED MEDIA! HART COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL November 19,20,21, 2024

Hart County High School students participated in an ARTS FOR ALL KENTUCKY ARTS INCLUSION ART AWARD "SELF PORTRAITS AND MIXED MEDIA" It was fun to see the artists grow and learn as they created! On Day 1 the visiting artist, Kim Soule shared slides about creating a self portrait and explained that the background would be painting, collage and assemblage....so LOTS of choices! The students were very receptive to the idea of so much choice! The process as well as the finished products were amazing!

KENTUCKY BARN QUILTS AT SHACKLETTE! OCT. 15,16,17, 2024 SHACKLETTE ELEMENTARY JCPS

KENTUCKY BARN QUILTS AT SHACKLETTE ELEMENTARY was a project that included so many students and educators at the school. The students were able to draw a design and color it after learning about Kentucky Barn Quilts. They were also able to collaborate in small groups to choose colors and design the pre drawn large quilt squares. It was fun to see them working together and experiencing the medium of acrylic paint. On the third day some of the groups added pattern to their quilt design to replicate the idea of printed cloth and to correct paint mistakes. The speech teachers worked with students as they participated in this project and offered the speech therapy for all participating and qualified students. The finished pieces were hung throughout the school and all of the school community have enjoyed the barn quilts so much!!

"CHIHULY GRAND CHANDELIER AT CTE" AUGUST 28,29,30 AND SEPT. 4, 2024

"CHIHULY GRAND CHANDELIER AT CTE" began with collaborating with all 3 art teachers serving Cumberland Trace Elementary to recreate the look of a Chihuly glass chandelier. I worked as the artist for Arts for All Kentucky with Lisa Kelton, Leigh Ann Young and Susan McCloud. I was able to see all the students from the school and introduce them to the inspiration artist, Dale Chihuly. We looked at examples of his work with glass and then talked about how we could simulate that look with plastic water bottles to create a large chandelier for their library. We used a hula hoop and chicken wire form to tie the bottles on after coloring them with sharpie markers and spiral cutting them. The students and teachers are so proud of this project! We also collaborated with the librarian, Amanda Jacobsen. WBKO Showed up and we were on the news!
