"KENTUCKY BARN QUILTS AT CTE!" Arts for All art Inclusion project April 22,29, May 6,13, 2024

"KENTUCKY BARN QUILTS AT CTE!" Art Inclusion project at Cumberland Trace Elementary was quite a challenge! For four Mondays Kim Soule, Artist and Lisa Kelton, Art Educator worked so hard leading the students in learning about folk art and barn quilts. The artist shared quilts from her own family and talked about the folk artists who had created them. Kim Soule also shared a google slide presentation about barn quilts, colors and designs. The students began by designing their own barn quilts using colorful markers. The next Mondays were spent collaborating on painting large barn quitlts that were drawn by the artist on 2x2 foam board and 4x4 foam board. The students collaborated on color and then painted the designs. The last Monday was used to touch up designs and add printmaking to give the illusion of fabric like a real handmade fabric quilt.

"MIXED MEDIA MANIA!" Arts for All Inclusion project South Warren Middle School April 9-12, 2024

"MIXED MEDIA MANIA!" Arts for All Inclusion project at South Warren Middle School was a first time project for me! We chose this theme because Paul Johnson, Art Teacher and Kim Soule, Artist were both trying these mixed media techniques in our own art. The students were awesome at creating and even brought in some of the mixed media items that they added to their own art. We started with an 11x14 canvas board and painted a single acrylic layer of one to two colors. In our next class we added collage elements and in our final 2 classes we added the 3d elements with hot glue and finally had a show and reflection/critique of the process and finished products.

SIDE BY SIDE: ART INCLUSION STYLE! A WORKSHOP AT NAEA 2024 MINNEAPOLIS APRIL 4 (SPONSORED BY AN ARTS FOR ALL SPECIAL INITIATIVES AWARD)

Jennifer Sims, Art Educator Hart Count High School and Kim Soule, Roster Artist Arts for All Kentucky presented an excellent workshop session at the National Art Education Association National Convention 2024 In Minneapolis Minnesota. We had 22 participants who received a picture of the special needs student and their artwork plus a few interesting facts about the student. The participants created a Side by Side piece that could reflect anything about the students self portrait. They were also encouraged to use collage or assemblage. As the participant/teachers worked they discussed their own students and possibilities of a similar project/experience at their own schools. Jennifer and Kim shared a google slide presentation about their recent project and school installation of self portraits. As the teachers were working and finishing their own projects which we intended to photograph and then publish in a virtual side by side, they decided all together to donate the artwork back to the students! What a surprise to Jennifer and Kim! The teachers also wrote notes to the students on the back encouraging them! What a wonderful and rewarding project!

The tiles ranged from Kentucky themed to school themed to a reflection of cultures. All students were able to complete a beautiful and meaningful tile. Several teacher aides and peer tutors were helpful to students who had special needs. Teachers and Administrators participating making tiles that were reflective of what they taught or thought important to the school. The students also had a turn to throw pottery on the pottery wheel under the instruction of Kim Soule, Roster Artist. All of the pottery was bisque fired by art teacher Jada Roy. 2023 Kentucky Exceptional Children's Conference Louisville Ky Nov. 20, 2023 "Chihuly"

Dala Sparks, Speech and Language Pathologist and Kim Soule, Roster Artist for Arts for All KY presented their recent Arts for All Inclusion Award, "Chihuly" at The 2023 Kentucky Exceptional Children's Conference in Louisville Ky on November 20, 2023. Participants were teachers from all over the state. Kim Soule showed them the google slide that was used at Shacklette Elementary to introduce the artist Dale Chihuly and then gave some initial instructions about the project of using recycled materials and plastic plates to create the look of glass. She also showed the teachers how to access the Arts for All Ky website and the Inclusion Art Award application. Dala Sparks then presented beautifully about the outcomes of the project with photos of the installations and data on the pre/post test, reflections, and surveys. As always when the teachers were actually creating they were brainstorming with each other as well as with the presenters on adaptations for special needs students, how to collect materials and possibilities of implementing this teaching at their own unique school and teaching situations. Hands on learning like this is so valuable for the teachers!
